Huon Pine Burl/Birdseye Giant Slabs
These two are an amazing sight, they are " Enormous " and Absolutely Unique ".
The masssive Huon Pine they came from, is believed to have been cut down well over a hundred years ago. Because of the unusual and difficult to work shape, the whole log was then left behind and the Tasmanian Wilderness growth soon hid it from view.
During a reclaiming operation 30 years ago the log was recovered. A number of Slabs were then sawn from the log, and were used in Fine Furniture making, these two being the largest were then stored under a pile of roofing iron and firewod logs, beneath a Gum tree effectively lost and forgotten !
Re-discovered in 2019, we then transported them to our workshop in Devonport Tasmania.
We washed and cleaned them extensively, then sanded them just enough to show off the Burl and Birds Eye feature and 30 years of " patina " and aging. The photos here are taken with the slabs both wet and dry to give an indication of the grain and patterning.
They can be carefully crafted, and sanded more as they are incredibly thick and would positively Glow when fully finished.
We can make them into very special Furniture, a Bar, a Boardroom Table, or an amazing Display piece in a foyer worthy of them. Or you may want to create your own piece !
They are between 2500 and 3000 years old and are the Largest and Rarest Pair of Huon Slabs available in Tasmania !
Each Slab measures : 5.5 metres long x varying natural width up to 1.1 metres at their widest point x 80 mm thick and there are two of them !
These are available by appointment/viewing in person only at our Showroom in Devonport Tasmania.
They represent a Unique and Exclusive once in a lifetime, Investment opportunity
